Overview

This is a humorous story about a family that impulsively buys a pet parrot without thinking about the consequences.  Students will relate to the family’s dismay as Pancho creates havoc in the home.  Descriptive language enhances the story, as do Gerardo Suzán’s playful and sometimes fantastical illustrations.

Purpose

Children will be able to share their own experiences of mischievous pets while reading this story.  The descriptive language and use of capitals and exclamation marks for emphasis can be studied to enhance their own writing.
