Overview

Soy el rey de la montaña is a fable that invites participation through rhythmic, repetitive language and a strong element of anticipation.  Larger creatures come along and take the title of el rey de la montaña from their smaller predecessors, but it is the tiny flea who wins the day.

Purpose

This story could be used to introduce children to the fable form in a way that invites a high level of reader participation.  There is also the chance to work with a range of print conventions associated with direct speech.  The element of repetition will be a strong support for the reader.
