Overview

The lively photographs in this book clearly show the enthusiasm of these young collectors, and the detail in the images will encourage picture-search skills in a natural way.  The simple, repetitive text encourages the use of initial consonants as cues to meaning.

Purpose

Todo tipo de cosas introduces the idea of collections as an interest.  The photographs depict children from a range of ethnic backgrounds and
the different items they collect.  It is an excellent example of the use of photographs to convey detail.

Setting the scene

A good way to begin discussion might be to examine a collection that a child has brought to school.  The students will begin to offer their
ideas for other collections and be focused for the reading.  Encourage a short discussion of their own collections.  Discuss the photograph on the cover.
